I’ve been testing both Jamie and Granola, and honestly, they both want to make note-taking easier for you. But they do it in totally different ways. I found Jamie works great when I’m offline, and I can edit my transcripts afterwards. That’s perfect if you’re like me and need a little bit of freedom to have your transcripts your way or to fix minor errors.

Granola really impressed me with its real-time AI chat prompts and how it organises everything into folders. I think you’ll love it if you’re someone who needs to have more manual control over how you structure your notes.

I spent weeks testing both tools, and I’m going to break down everything for you, what they do, how much they cost, and which one might work best for your situation.

Enjoy!!

Speakers Hard To Track?

Granola and Jamie Are Both Bot-Free Meeting Assistants, But Jamie Remembers Speakers for Future Meetings

Both Granola and Jamie are designed to automate your note-taking. Granola has real-time AI chat prompts and the ability to organise notes into folders.

You can ask anything about a meeting through their AI chat option, and you can organise your notes into folders.

One of the main features that Granola currently lacks is giving the users the ability to edit their transcripts. Which some might find quite restrictive to edit their transcription according to the way they like.

But Jamie provides that opportunity for their users to edit their transcripts just the way they like them.

Granola do not provide editing capability to fix their transcriptions but Jamie does

Jamie also has a voice profile learning.

This is a feature that helps remember speaker names over time.

After just a few meetings, Jamie can automatically identify and tag speakers in transcripts, so you don’t have to manually input names each time.

Granola does not have speaker memory, while Jamie remembers speakers automatically

In my research, I found that users often complain about this Granola’s limitations, especially the lack of long-term speaker memory.

Many users reported they had to manually input speaker names for each meeting, which can be tedious and time-consuming.

What do you dislike about Granola?
I would love if there were more integrations (outlook, apple calendar, notes/reminders) as well as a mobile app so I could use it on the go. I also don't like that there isn't speaker recognition. - G2 Reivew

Jamie also works fully offline, which means you can use Jamie anytime and anywhere. But Granola works offline only in their mobile application.

Granola doesn't work offline but Jamie works offline

While Granola has its strengths, like integration with CRMs and real-time chat prompts, Jamie’s voice profile learning feature addresses a common pain point for users who have to keep track of multiple speakers in meetings.

Both have their limitations. Jamie doesn’t have a mobile app or CRM integration, and Granola requires internet connectivity, but Jamie’s speaker identification feature can greatly increase the productivity and clarity of many meetings or lectures.

Now let's look at each tool's core features in a bit more detail!

Features | Granola vs Jamie

TL;DR

  • Jamie: Offline transcription, cross-platform support, voice learning.
  • Granola: Live meeting Q&A, iOS mobile app, simple experience.

Jamie’s Features

Offline and Online

Jamie works both offline and online. If you are someone who takes in-person meetings in cafés, where there's spotty internet, Jamie may be the tool for you.

For example, during a recent meeting that I had in a location with bad Wi-Fi, I was still able to take notes and transcribe without any sort of interruption from Jamie.

However, Granola is heavily reliant on the internet, which can be a big problem if you’re in a similar situation. Jamie’s offline capabilities mean I never miss a detail, no matter my (and your) internet connection.

Editable Transcripts

Jamie provides editable transcripts for their users | Jamie vs Granola

One of the best features of Jamie is the ability to edit transcripts. After a meeting, I often need to clarify or correct parts of the transcript.

Sometimes I might not even have to edit transcripts with Jamie, but on rare occasions, I just need to have that creative freedom to fix minor jargon errors, naming errors, etc.

Jamie lets me do this for free, which is amazing for accuracy.

Granola doesn’t offer this feature, so users can’t make changes to their transcripts after they’re generated. This can lead to misunderstandings or inaccuracies in the meeting notes, which Jamie avoids.

Though Jamie’s transcription can be highly accurate, it lets the user (and that's you!) have the final say!

Voice Profile Learning / Speaker Memory

Voice Profile Learning / Speaker Memory

After just a few meetings, Jamie can remember speaker names automatically, which saves me a ton of time. I recall a recent project where I had multiple stakeholders involved, and Jamie tagged each speaker in subsequent meetings without me having to re-enter their names

(because Jamie remembered their names through voice profiling!).

Granola doesn’t have this feature, so users have to manually input speaker names each time, which can be tedious and prone to errors.

Jamie Is for You If:

  • You need a tool that works offline and online so you can always take notes.
  • You want to be able to edit transcripts for accuracy and clarity.
  • You meet with the same people frequently and want a tool that remembers their names automatically.

Jamie Isn’t for You If:

  • You need real-time AI chat prompts during meetings.
  • You need a mobile app for on-the-go access, as Jamie doesn’t have one.
  • You prefer a more structured folder organisation for your notes, which Granola offers.

Granola’s Features

AI Chat Upgrade

Ask Granola about your meetings - Granola

Granola AI chat's latest update (v5.208.0) has become more concise in generating its answers. The answers seem to be relevant to the questions asked during meetings.

So if I ever find myself thinking “What did I miss?” I can get a relevant answer quickly without interrupting the meeting.

But I did notice that while this feature is helpful, it can sometimes give generic answers that don’t fully answer my question.

Multi-Meeting Chat

Ask Granola about your meetings - Granola

Granola’s multi-meeting chat allows users to search for people, companies or keywords across multiple meetings. You can easily reference past discussions without digging through multiple notes by just talking and requesting it from the AI chat feature.

Being able to pull up relevant info quickly across all meetings is a big bonus. But I found the search function can be slow and may cause hallucinations at times, especially when dealing with larger datasets.

Folder Organization

Getting started with folders - Granola

Granola 2.0 introduced a folder system for note organisation, which I found to be a big improvement. I can categorise my notes into unlimited folders so I can manage different projects.

The advanced folder-level chat and flexible permissions are also great for team collaboration. But I did run into some limitations with the folder structure, as it can get messy if not organised properly.

Granola is for you if:

  • You need real-time AI chat prompts to enhance your meeting experience.
  • You prefer a structured folder organisation for your notes and projects.
  • You want to search across multiple meetings quickly and efficiently.

Granola isn’t for you if:

  • You need offline functionality as Granola is heavily reliant on internet connectivity.
  • You want to be able to edit transcripts after they’re generated.
  • You want a tool that remembers speaker names automatically across meetings.

  • "Using Jamie means that I can focus on my actual work and not waste time setting up meetings, etc. In reality, it even means that Jamie saves me the work of a human assistant (approx. 45k annual salary)."
"One of the things that really stands out to me about Jamie is how it doesn't rely on bots joining my calls."
  • "Jamie has transformed how I manage meetings. This AI tool excels in creating accurate, concise summaries, allowing me to focus on discussions without worrying about note-taking."

Common complaints

  • "However, I would not regard this as a weakness, but rather I am impressed by how customer-focused the team is and how quickly actual requests are integrated into the tool."
  • "So far, nothing to complain about. Still exploring."
  • "This initial setup, requiring some hands-on input, is a small investment for the tailored accuracy and efficiency it offers in the long run."

Granola Reviews

What users love

  • "I’ve been recruiting for nearly 15 years, and I genuinely wish I had Granola from the very beginning. This tool allows me to be fully present in every candidate conversation without worrying about taking detailed notes in real time."

  • "It's simply the easiest tool I've discovered for capturing notes during meetings. • "On rare occasions, it fails to trigger, but I will usually see it pop up and will begin the meeting notes."
