Use Template
A daily standup template is a structured format for documenting daily team standups or syncs. It defines what to capture from each session: individual updates by person covering what was completed, what is being worked on, and what is blocked, a consolidated list of all blockers and dependencies mentioned, any decisions or announcements made, and topics that were flagged for a separate deeper discussion. The goal is to produce a concise, structured record of every standup that keeps the team aligned, surfaces blockers fast, and creates a lightweight daily audit trail without any extra effort.
About this template
This template has four sections. Each one tells Jamie what to capture during a daily standup and how to structure the output.
Section 1: Updates by Person
For each participant: what they completed since the last standup, what they are working on today, and any blockers. Kept to 2 to 4 bullet points per person, without discussion or tangents.
Section 2: Blockers and Dependencies
Pulls out all blockers mentioned by anyone into a single consolidated list - what the blocker is, who is blocked, who can unblock it, and whether there is a deadline.
Section 3: Decisions and Announcements
Captures any quick decisions made or announcements shared: priority changes, timeline shifts, releases, or deadlines.
Section 4: Follow-Up Discussions
Lists topics flagged for a separate, longer conversation - what needs to be discussed, who needs to be involved, and whether a time was set.
Why Teams Use This Template
Standups that go undocumented leave no trail when blockers compound
When a blocker first appeared in Monday's standup and it is now Thursday and the sprint is at risk, a structured daily record tells you exactly when it surfaced, who was blocked, and whether anyone committed to unblocking it.
Blockers scattered across individual updates are easy to miss
A consolidated blockers section that pulls every dependency out of individual updates into a single list makes the team's actual constraints visible at a glance - rather than buried in the third bullet of person four's update.
Async team members get full context without attending
For distributed or async teams, a structured standup note shared after the meeting means remote team members know exactly what happened without attending a synchronous call.
Notes are ready instantly with no extra effort
Standups are short by design. Nobody wants to spend 10 minutes writing them up afterwards. With this template, Jamie produces structured notes within minutes of the standup ending automatically.
