Do you want to find out how to record a meeting in Google Meet or if you are even allowed to record? This guide will has a super easy, step-by-step guide that you can follow. We even tell you how to request access from your Google Workspace Admin.
It sounds so easy but, still, so many struggle to record a meeting in Google Meet. That is mainly because of two reasons. Firstly, Google does not display the record button in the default menu bar in the bottom. Secondly, many users don't have access to the recording function initially. I this blog we will show you, both, how you record a meeting (if you have access already) and how to request access from your Google Workspace administrator.

Finding out if you have the permission to record a meeting is pretty easy. Just click on the option button (...) in your meeting and see if the option recording is available.

If you do not have access or permission, it will look like this (see how to get access in section below):
If you can see the recording button, you can start the recording just by clicking on the button. You will see a pop-up window which asks you to confirm the recording. Once the recording started you will see a red recording sign in the top left corner of your screen.
Note: Other meeting participants will be notified as soon as the recording starts and stops. Therefore, we recommend informing your participants before you start the recording.
To stop recording, click stop recording. The recording will be sent to your email that is connected to your Google account.
If you do have paid account and fall under one of the below-mentioned categories (see section: who can record a meeting in Google Meet), but don't see the option to record a meeting in Google Meet, please ask your Google Workspace Admin to change this in the settings.

Step 1: Go to your Google Admin Console
Step 2: In your side bar chose “Apps -> Google Workspace -> Google Meet -> Meet video settings -> Recording” and set the checkmark for “Let people record their meetings”. Make sure to save the changes.
