Need to present a slide deck, document, or browser tab during a meeting? Google Meet makes screen sharing simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you out.
How to Share Screen from Computer
1. Join your Google Meet video call.

2. At the bottom of the panel, click Share screen.

3. Choose what you want to share:
- Your entire screen
- A window
- A specific tab (best for sharing video/audio)
If you're sharing a Chrome tab, its audio will be shared by default. To switch tabs while presenting, click Share this tab instead on the banner.

4. Click Share to begin.

Tips for smoother presentations:
- Your video stays active if your camera is on while presenting
- Avoid sharing the Meet window to prevent a mirror effect—choose a separate tab or window instead
- To share audio, you must select a Chrome tab
How to stop presenting?
In the meeting window, click Stop presenting. Or, click You are presenting at the bottom right, then select Stop presenting.
How to share screen if someone else is presenting?
- Click Present now at the bottom
- Choose what to share, then click Present instead
Their presentation will pause when you take over.
How to Share Screen on Mobile Devices (Android)
To present your screen:
1. Join a Google Meet video call.
2. Tap the screen, then tap More (⋮) > Share screen > Start Sharing.
On the pop-up, check the box to share audio, if available.
Few things to keep in mind:
- Sharing audio may disable noise cancellation. If you don’t see the checkbox, audio sharing might not be supported on your device
- If you mute your mic, your audio will stop sharing
- You can start presenting even if someone else is already sharing—their presentation will pause
To stop sharing your screen, tap Stop sharing, then confirm with OK.
How can you join a meeting just to present your screen?
1. Open the Google Meet app. Tap an upcoming meeting or join with a meeting code/nickname (nicknames work only within your organization).
2. Instead of tapping Join, tap Share screen.
3. Click Continue, then tap Start now when prompted.
You’re now sharing your screen—no video or audio will be sent unless you join the call separately.

FAQs
1. Why can’t I share my screen in Google Meet?
The screen sharing mode/option might be disabled by your Google Workspace admin or restricted due to meeting host controls. If you don’t see the “Present now” option or it’s grayed out, check with your IT admin or ask the host to allow presentations.
2. What is Companion mode, and when should I use it for presenting?
Companion mode lets you join a Google meet meeting from a second device with your mic and speaker off—ideal when you’re in a conference room with shared audio. Use this mode to present content without creating audio feedback or echo.
3. Does screen sharing work in breakout rooms?
Yes, you can share your screen in breakout rooms just like in the main meeting. However, screen sharing may be limited if the host has restricted participant permissions within breakout sessions.
4. How do I start taking notes in Google Meet with Jamie?
- Open Jamie on your computer.
- Click “Start Meeting” in the Jamie app before your Google Meet starts.
- Join your Google Meet as usual.
- When the meeting ends, click “Stop Meeting” in Jamie.
- Wait a few minutes, and your notes will be ready!
4. Will participants see notifications or pop-ups from my screen while I present?
Yes. If you share your entire screen or a window, participants will see everything on your screen, including system notifications or pop-ups. To avoid this, consider sharing just a browser tab or preparing a clean window for presenting.
